Das Symbol „Weltkarte“ ist im „Kartensymbol“ subblock des „Miscellaneous Symbols and Pictographs“ blocks enthalten und wurde als Teil der Unicode-Version 7.0 im Jahr 2014 genehmigt. Im Jahr 2015 wurde es auch als Emoji in der Version 1.0 genehmigt und zur „Karte“ Unterkategorie der „Reisen & Orte“ Kategorie hinzugefügt.
