Emoji Meaning

A pager is a classic worn-on-belt device. It was supposed to warn the owner about incoming calls and messages. It was especially popular around 80-90's before mobile phones had been introduced, although some hospital staff (ambulance medics, in particular) in the USA still employ this device. Platforms depict it as a black device with control buttons and a green screen.

The symbol “Pager” is included in the “Communication symbols” subblock of the “Miscellaneous Symbols and Pictographs” block and was approved as part of Unicode version 6.0 in 2010. In 2015, it was also approved as an Emoji in version 1.0 and added to the “Phone” subcategory of the “Objects” category.
