Alfabet Oriya

Descriere

Like most of the writings of India, the Oriya alphabet is a descendant of the Brahmi writing system. Also is an abugid. Directly, Oriya developed from the eastern variant of nagari (Bengali), which originates from the Siddhamatra.

This alphabet is used for writing in the Oriya language, spoken mainly in eastern India in the state of Orissa.

There is an opinion that rounded forms of letters formed due to the fact that they were recorded on palm leaves. When drawing horizontal lines, this sheet was easy to damage. So, gradually, the upper line of Bengali letters became an arc.
