Gimel is one of the letters of the Hebrew alphabet. In modern language it denotes the sound ]. If it is followed by an apostrophe, it means ]. Like all letters of the Hebrew alphabet, Gimel has a numerical value and is used to write the number 3.

The appearance of the Gimel symbol is determined by its origin from the word “gamal” (camel). In its original form, the symbol resembled a camel that turned its head back.
