A yellow face with eyes closed wearing a white surgical mask. As the coronavirus COVID-19 started to spread, this emoji went viral (the irony!), and in 2020 became primarily used in relation to this pandemic.

The symbol "Face with Medical Mask" is included in the "Faces" Subblock of the "Emoticons (Emoji)" Block and was approved as part of Unicode version 6.0 in 2010. In 2015, it was also approved as an emoji in version 1.0 and added to the "Sickly Face" Subcategory of the "Smileys & Emotion" Category.
