Emoji Meaning
When an asteroid reaches the planet's atmosphere, it usually burns off due to friction against the air. This is clearly visible in the night sky. Such an asteroid is called a meteorite, or a shooting star.
The symbol “Shooting Star” is included in the “Moon, sun, and star symbols” subblock of the “Miscellaneous Symbols and Pictographs” block and was approved as part of Unicode version 6.0 in 2010. In 2015, it was also approved as an Emoji in version 1.0 and added to the “Sky & Weather” subcategory of the “Travel & Places” category.
