Emoji Meaning
Two masks used to indicate theatre. They take root from Ancient Greek Theatre, where masks were attributes of comedy and tragedy. One mask is grumpy or has a suffering face expression, the other is smiling.
The symbol “Performing Arts” is included in the “Entertainment symbols” subblock of the “Miscellaneous Symbols and Pictographs” block and was approved as part of Unicode version 6.0 in 2010. In 2015, it was also approved as an Emoji in version 1.0 and added to the “Arts & Crafts” subcategory of the “Activities” category.
