Emoji Meaning

A gesture that in American Sign Language means “I love you”. However, it is often confused with the traditional “devil's horns” gesture that is popular at heavy metal or rock music concerts. The difference is that love-you gesture has a stretched out thumb, whereas in the horns it's closed.

The symbol “Love-You Gesture” is included in the “Hand symbols” subblock of the “Supplemental Symbols and Pictographs” block and was approved as part of Unicode version 10.0 in 2017. In 2017, it was also approved as an Emoji in version 5.0 and added to the “Partial Hand with Fingers” subcategory of the “People & Body” category.
