A roadwork sign, which warns that there is an ongoing construction in this area. It is displayed as a bright-coloured sign, featuring black-and-yellow stripes in order to catch attention of pedestrians or drivers. Metaphorically it may suggest that something is under development at the moment, for example, a project.
The symbol “Construction” is included in the “Traffic signs” subblock of the “Transport and Map Symbols” block and was approved as part of Unicode version 6.0 in 2010. In 2015, it was also approved as an Emoji in version 1.0 and added to the “Ground Transport” subcategory of the “Travel & Places” category.
