What is the hyphen symbol?
The hyphen is not a punctuation mark. It is always part of the word; Therefore, it refers to spelling. The word hyphen comes from the Latin divisio — division. There are several hyphens in Unicode. The minus is different in length and height in the string (at least it should, however, the font decides everything). Non-breaking hyphen — does not allow anyone to break the line in this place.

The symbol “Hyphen” is included in the “Dashes” subblock of the “General Punctuation” block and was approved as part of Unicode version 1.1 in 1993.
