Hot Beverage Emoji ☕

This emoji represent a cup with some beverage (most likely coffee), which is producing steam, meaning that the contents of the cup is hot enough. The cup can be depicted with or without a plate. Such a sign can be a warning that you may get burned. Coffee or tea is often sold in insulated cups with a lid. And this warning is usually printed on such lids, so that the seller doesn't have to repeat “Careful, the beverage that you are about to enjoy is extremely hot“. The symbol “Hot Beverage” is included in the “Miscellaneous symbol” subblock of the “Miscellaneous Symbols” block and was approved as part of Unicode version 4.0 in 2003. In 2015, it was also approved as an Emoji in version 1.0 and added to the “Drink” subcategory of the “Food & Drink” category.
