A skull with two crossed bones means death or mortal danger. Such a symbol is depicted on a sign warning of a minefield or chemical contamination. Pirates painted something similar on their flags and called it “Jolly Roger”.
The symbol “Skull And Crossbones” is included in the “Warning signs” subblock of the “Miscellaneous Symbols” block and was approved as part of Unicode version 1.1 in 1993. In 2015, it was also approved as an Emoji in version 1.0 and added to the “Angry Face” subcategory of the “Smileys & Emotion” category.
