Symbol Meaning
This plain symbol U+2706 is still used as a noticeable visual element next to telephone numbers, in contact sections, and when decorating navigation signs. It is relevant due to the clear and accurate design. The handset and cable are fulfilled in the black colour without shadows, outlined frame or other details.
Telephone location sign is one of the oldest symbols in Unicode. It was complemented by other icons only in 2010, when there appeared new signs, such as smartphones, colourful wireless devices.
The symbol “Telephone Location Sign” is included in the “Miscellaneous” subblock of the “Dingbats” block and was approved as part of Unicode version 1.1 in 1993.
