Sakura tree belongs to the subfamily of plum. Most species almost don't give any fruit — they are planted for aesthetic reasons. Sakura flower has a deep symbolic meaning in Japanese culture. The symbol “Cherry Blossom” is included in the “Plant symbols” subblock of the “Miscellaneous Symbols and Pictographs” block and was approved as part of Unicode version 6.0 in 2010. In 2015, it was also approved as an Emoji in version 1.0 and added to the “Flower” subcategory of the “Animals & Nature” category.
