An alarm clock. This type of clock is usually wound in advance, so that it wakes up the owner right in time for getting up. The design varies across platforms, but usually it's a classic next-to-bed alarm clock, most often red-coloured. People use this emoji to talk about anxiety, sleeping, dreaming, waking up, and just time in general.
The symbol “Alarm Clock” is included in the “User interface symbols” subblock of the “Miscellaneous Technical” block and was approved as part of Unicode version 6.0 in 2010. In 2015, it was also approved as an Emoji in version 1.0 and added to the “Time” subcategory of the “Travel & Places” category.
