The word phone itself comes from two Greek words which mean “far” and “sound”. For many years, the inventor of this miracle of technology was considered to be bell. However, in 2002, the U.S. Congress passed a resolution stating that it was invented by Meucci.
The symbol “Telephone” is included in the “Miscellaneous symbols” subblock of the “Miscellaneous Symbols” block and was approved as part of Unicode version 1.1 in 1993. In 2015, it was also approved as an Emoji in version 1.0 and added to the “Phone” subcategory of the “Objects” category.
