Description
The Bamum alphabet was created for the Bamum language by King Njoya of Cameroon. The process of its formation was rather difficult, and numerous reforms took place. The first version of the script consisted of 465 pictograms, so it was ideographic. The last version (6th) was syllabic and had only 80 characters. In 1978 France occupied Cameroon to expel King Njoya, and the script got forbidden. Nowadays Bamum is not used anymore. You can find Njoya's earlier projects in the block called Bamum Supplement16800–16A3F .
